Q: What is the difference between a Special School and a Regular School?

A: Education in Special School is based on the individual needs of the child unlike regular schools where a fixed syllabus is followed for each group.

Q: Should a special child be sent to special schools only or should he be integrated in a regular setup?

A: It is always better to send a special child to a regular / integrated setup if s/he can adjust over there. But, if the child has special needs that are not catered to in the regular school, then the child must be sent to a Special school.

Q: How does Special Education benefit children with severe handicaps?

A: Special Education helps in improving the quality of life of severely handicapped children. Participation in community is also enhanced as per their level.

Q: Should speech therapy be conducted only by the Speech Therapist?

A: Only a few Speech Therapy sessions with the Speech therapist do not help much. For being effective, the therapies should be incorporated in all home and classroom situations.

Q: How does Biomedical Research help persons with disabilities?

A: An approach to help a person with disability starts with an accurate diagnosis available through diagnostic tests, which are an outcome of Biomedical Research. Biomedical Research is one of the ways of getting an accurate picture of the cause of disability and also assists in enabling cure / relief to the affected individual/s. Accurate diagnosis is an essential criteria for early intervention and targeted medication which in turn are critical for effective rehabilitation of the affected persons. Biomedical research also hopes to achieve effective therapeutic as well as preventive devices in the coming years.

Q: How can I help?

A: MINDS AND SOULS is always in need of help, to "Label" these special children "Able". Any kind of HELP, whether in terms of donations, sponsorships or even some time spent with these special needs children, is always welcome. Please come forward & make their world shining.
